Esther Ganelin-Cohen, M.D, Ph.D. – Biographical Summary
Dr. Ganelin-Cohen is currently the Director of the Neuroimmunological Clinic at Schneider Children’s Medical Center of Israel. She earned her B.Sc. degree in Biology in 1993 from the Tel-Aviv University through the highly selective Israeli Academic Atuda. After graduation, she served, in the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) from 1993 through 1996, as a Lieutenant in the Intelligence Corps. She returned to Tel Aviv University in 1996 on a fellowship in the Cell Research and Immunology Department and received her M.Sc. (Summa Cum Laude) in 1998. Her Master’s Thesis is entitled "Analysis of Small Polydispersed Circular DNA with Telomeric Sequences (tel-spcDNA), and a New Method for their Detection).
Dr. Ganelin-Cohen pursued her medical education at the "Technion”-Israel Technological Institute from 1999-2007 (M.D. Cum Laude, 2007) while achieving a PhD degree in the Department of Biochemisty at the Technion (Ph.D., 2007, Thesis: "Mechanisms of Tetraplex-DNA Binding and Destabilization by the hn-RNP-Related Protein CBF-A" ).
In collaboration with Batya Kaplan, Ph.D., from the Heller Institute at Sheba Hospital, she is also Involved in a basic research project “Free Light Chain Immunoglobulin as a New Marker for Multiple Sclerosis (MS).” Dr. Ganelin-Cohen serves on the Advisory Committee of the Israeli MS Society. Pursuing her commitment beyond conventional medical care for the MS pediatric patients, she established free Yoga training and a dog training workshop. These two projects provide innovative approaches that consider patients’ emotional as well as their physical needs.
